College ROTC Scholarships - DEADLINE 31 DECEMBER
Each branch of the military offers college scholarships to qualified students, except Space Force which is still developing. You do not have to be in Junior ROTC to qualify, but it may help. Here are the links to each service's scholarship program. After you investigate these programs, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Lt Col Howard.
AFJROTC Character-in-Leadership Scholarship (“J-100”)
Contact Lt Col Howard if you are interested in this scholarship.
Headquarters Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (HQ AFJROTC), in conjunction with Air University (AU) and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), is proud to announce the establishment of a new, annual ROTC scholarship program which recognizes the character and leadership developed in AFJROTC. This effort makes pursuing a commission in the United States Air Force while earning a college degree a reality for many cadets in the Air Force’s most diverse program.
The J-100 AFJROTC Character-in-Leadership Scholarship (J-100) will provide 100 cadets a full four-year ROTC college scholarship, including room and board, at select Minority Serving Institutions (MSI), Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI). This scholarship was established by former U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff (CSAF) General David L. Goldfein.
Students must meet both academic and physical fitness standards. The program utilizes an established ROTC scholarship application process with additional JROTC sections. Cadets who advance in the application process will ultimately meet a Leadership Evaluation Board (LEB), a panel interview to determine the final scholarship awards. Selected cadets choose a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) college or university on an approved list. There are no specific technical degree requirements, but up to 25% of cadets may access into technical degrees.
Eligibility
Cadet must be a US Citizen
Cadet must be a high school senior
Cadet must be Current Academic Year ACTIVE AFJROTC cadets
Cadet must have completed 2 full academic years of AFJROTC or will complete 2 years at the end of their senior year
Cadet must have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0
Cadet must have a valid PFT score (current or previous score in WINGS)
Cadet must have an ACT of 22 or higher, or SAT of 1100 or higher. NOTE: ACT/SAT is mandatory unless the student has been unable to test due to COVID. In this case, GPA only will meet the requirement. However, instructors should validate COVID was the reason students could not test.
Additional information
The Selection Board will grade on the application questions (40% weighting), instructor endorsements (20% weighting), academics (ACT/SAT or GPA = 20% weighting), and PFT (20% weighting). Following the quantitative boarding process, a “select” number of students will qualify for the Leadership Evaluation Board (LEB), the qualitative part of the process. For the LEB, students will be assigned a date/time to participate in a 30 to 60-minute panel interview. Following the panel interview LEB, 100 Cadets will be selected for scholarships.
